Their story

Little Pomona Cider & Perry was founded by James and Susanna Forbes, a couple who both previously worked for the wine retailer Oddbins. After two years spent searching for the right site, they bought an orchard and house near Thornbury in north Herefordshire in 2014 and launched commercially in 2017; the orchard's previous owner had supplied fruit to cidermaker Tom Oliver. In 2019 the business moved to Brook House Farm, south of Bromyard, giving it a much larger pressing and fermentation capacity than its original garage-based set-up. Little Pomona makes low-intervention cider, perry and fruit co-ferments using wild yeast, working with damsons and quince alongside apples and pears, and was among the first UK makers to sell a dry, keg-conditioned cider commercially.

The original orchard at Thornbury has around 120 cider apple trees of four classic varieties; the business now presses and matures its drinks at Brook House Farm near Bromyard, and also buys in fruit from partner growers for some ferments.

What they make

  • A New Leaf 2023 cider, vintage blend
  • Broome Farm Pet Nat 2023 sparkling, pet-nat method
  • Brut de Poiré 2021 sparkling perry, dry
  • Brut Rosé 2021 sparkling cider, dry, rosé
  • Cuvee Pomme sparkling, higher strength, keeved
  • Table Perry still perry, lower ABV, sold by the glass
