Their story
Hecks Farmhouse Cider has been made by the same family in Street since 1841, and is now run by the sixth generation. Around 70 to 80% of their fruit comes from their own five orchards in Somerset, with the rest bought from other local growers; the orchards are managed without synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, with sheep grazing between the trees, and one perry pear orchard was planted in 2000. Alongside blended ciders, perry and apple juice, they bottle single-variety drinks such as Broxwood Foxwhelp cider and Hendre Huffcap and Rock perries. Their farm shop, established in 1896, sells cider on draught from the wood as well as bottled and boxed.
