Their story
Avalon Vineyard, trading as Pennard Organic Wines, was founded in 1981 by Hugh and Hilary Tripp on a hillside at East Pennard overlooking the Vale of Avalon, starting on half an acre. It has grown into a vineyard and orchard producing organic wine, cider, fruit wines, mead and liqueurs, certified organic by the Soil Association from the outset; Hugh Tripp was later recognised by the Soil Association as an "Organic Pioneer" for over 25 years of organic certification. Their cider is a traditional, unfiltered farmhouse "scrumpy" style, blended from named Somerset cider apple varieties and sweetened to dry, medium or sweet as customers prefer.
Own cider orchard alongside the vineyard at East Pennard, farmed organically since 1981; no sprays used on their apples or their disease-resistant hybrid grape varieties.
