Their story
JP Cider is a very small cider maker based on an orchard at Burcot, between Redditch and Bromsgrove, in Worcestershire. It began when a neighbour offered the use of an old cider apple orchard in exchange for it being kept in good order. The orchard now holds around 30 apple and pear varieties, part of a wider heritage collection of some 36 kinds, among them Dabinett, Brown's, Kingston Black and Katy, with smaller numbers of Michelin, Tom Putt, Tremlett's Bitter, Somerset Redstreak, Major and a few Brandy perry pear trees. Cider is fermented using wild yeasts found on the fruit and in the pressing barn, with each batch varying according to the apples used, producing a little over 1,000 litres a year.
Its own orchard on land between Redditch and Bromsgrove, previously a private orchard kept for its former owner; holds around 30 apple and pear varieties, including a heritage collection of some 36 kinds in total.
