Their story
Butford Organics is run by Martin and Janet Harris, who moved to Butford Farm near Leominster, Herefordshire, from Leeds in 1999 aiming for self-sufficiency on an organic smallholding. Immersing themselves in the county's cider and perry heritage, Martin began making perry around 20 years ago, drawn to the tradition and the loss of old perry pear orchards locally. The farm is Soil Association certified organic. Cider and perry are naturally fermented with wild yeast and no added sulphites. The business is best known for its organic perry, made from a range of old pear varieties across its own orchards, alongside organic cider, draught cider and perry, and a cider brandy.
Two organic perry pear orchards of around 270 trees across 15 varieties, mostly on Pyro Dwarf rootstock (about 35 trees on the longer-lived Pyro communis rootstock), on their farm near Leominster.
